Dare to Lead for Education Leaders

January 29-31 | Austin, Texas

The ultimate 3-day all-inclusive leadership development experience for educators who are ready to be braver with their lives, so their teachers and students can do the same.

We are in the business of raising children, of teaching them to be curious, brave, and bold learners.

If we are going to teach children to be brave with their lives, to try new things, to believe they are truly worthy, to feel okay putting themselves out there - to be seen and heard because that's truly the only way to connect, to love and belong...

We have to go first.

But when do we learn how to be brave in our leadership? When do we learn how to take risks? That we are worthy, so we stop giving in/over to our perception of others' perceptions and expectations of us? When do we learn how to show up as whole human beings, as people?

In 20+ years of education...I can't recall one PD, one course in grad school teaching me how to be a brave, people-centered leader

In 20+ years of education...We've focused on outcomes, data, and curriculum when we've been trying to grow people.

What if the way we send brave, resilient, risk-taking, question-asking, growth-centered, children who know they belong into the world is…

By becoming the daring leaders our students and teachers need to see in order to be?

This new approach will require daring leaders who

  • are self-aware

  • know how to have hard conversations

  • hold themselves and others accountable by giving and receiving feedback

  • build trust

  • lead with empathy and connection

  • take smart risks that lead to innovation, and

  • and reset quickly after disappointments/ setbacks.

Being the daring leaders our children need to see requires courage and a willingness to lead with vulnerability.

Dr. Brené Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston and four-time New York Times best-selling author, spent years researching leadership and organizational culture. The most significant finding from her latest research is that by focusing on four skills, the courage we need to become those daring leaders is teachable. The four skills are:

How do we become braver leaders?
We learn.

  • Rumbling with Vulnerability: Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity

  • Living into our Values: Identifying, operationalizing, and practicing the beliefs we hold most important

  • BRAVING Trust: Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams based on the seven elements of trust

  • Learning to Rise: Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives

Dare to Lead for Education Leaders

Why courage matters in education…

If we are committed to our schools being at the forefront of innovation, leading the way in academia, and embracing belonging as the highest form of diversity and inclusion, we must take off the armor and lead with vulnerability and courage.

When I think about the beauty and responsibility we have as leaders in education to be brave with our lives, so our teachers and children can do the same, I can think of no better group of people, save parents, go through the Dare to Lead work.

  • Hi, I'm Aisha

I believe the truest act of leadership is knowing and using our strengths to create spaces where others are comfortable and confident to do the same.

In my twenty years of experience in education, I have been a teacher and/or administrator in every type of school including: a traditional ISD serving predominantly Black students, the original KIPP Academy charter serving LatinX/Black students, The Kinkaid School (her alma mater) which is an elite private school serving a wealthy/fairly homogenous student body, and back to a traditional public school that had a bit of all of the above. In every one of those places, kids, teachers, administrators and parents alike wanted one thing most of all: to be seen and valued.

As a leadership coach and Certified Dare to LeadTM Facilitator, I am committed to helping educators lead with courage and create space for themselves and our children.

Prior to my work as a coach, I most recently served as the VP of Development for Teach For America Houston. I’ve served on the board of Breakthrough Houston, Girls, Inc., and as a council member for Houstonians for Great Public Schools. I have a B.A. in English from Trinity University in San Antonio and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University, where I was a founding cohort member of the Summer Principals Academy (SPA) Program.

When I’m not speaking, training or coaching, you’ll find me hanging with my husband, Dave, and our two beautiful kiddos.
